Casting Workshop

An introduction to casting while talking about, transforming, and converting our favorite fruits into three-dimensional objects.

The workshop introduced its participants to plaster casting of already existing objects, working with different materials such as plaster, cement, and clay. The goal was to get comfortable with the materials while reflecting on the objects-fruits which are being worked with. 

The participants brought their own fruits or picked one from our fruit bowl. 

While waiting for the plaster to set and dry, and as part of Laura Oyuela’s artistic research, we delved into the history of fruit production and its link to current ways of capitalist production and consumption habits. We talked about our favorite fruits and foods, and our trips to the supermarkets. 

By the end of the workshop, each participants took home their own fruit-sculpture. ~
